BBQ Competition Rules and Information

The event is rain or shine. No refunds will be given.

BBQ Competition  Policies: 

BBQ competitors will be showcasing their skills for local pride and BBQ glory. Each team/vendor will prepare 6 sample portions (2–3 oz each) of the following:

  • Meat: Any BBQ meat selection, sauced or not (beef, pork, chicken, etc.)
  • Side Dish: One complementary side (e.g., slaw, mac & cheese, beans, etc.)
  • Dessert: A sweet finish that fits the BBQ vibe

***Samples MUST BE READY to be provided directly to the judges at 6:30 PM*** 

The winner will be announced at 7:30 PM.

Judging Process:

A panel of official judges, including a special guest feature judge, will visit each booth during the competition window. Competitors will present their samples for on-the-spot evaluation.

Scoring Criteria

Each entry will be judged using the following scale:

Tenderness / Texture 0–10 points
Flavor 0–10 points
Smoke Level 0–10 points
Overall Impression 0–10 points
Total Possible Score 45 points

Scoring Guidelines:

  • Appearance (0–5): Evaluates visual appeal, color, plating (if applicable), bark, glaze/sauce presentation. Garnishes are optional and not scored unless otherwise noted.
  • Tenderness/Texture (0–10): Assesses deal doneness for the meat type. Texture should be appropriate for the cut and cooking style—neither tough nor mushy. Bite-through skin (for chicken), pull resistance (ribs), etc.
  • Flavor (0–10): Looks at balance and depth of flavor—seasoning, smoke, sauce, and meat. Over- or under-seasoned can lose points.
  • Smoke Level (0–10): Judges the integration of smoke flavor—clean, pleasant smoke that enhances, not overwhelms. Harsh or acrid smoke will be penalized.
  • Overall Impression (0–10): The judge’s holistic take—was it memorable, satisfying, and cohesive? How was their booth presentation? Would you come back for more?

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $1000.00 plus the glory and annual trophy presentation on stage! 
  • 2nd Place: $250.00
  • 3rd Place: $125.00
